Karen and Alan Tend Bar at Food Network's SWEETS Event

Mini Cupcake Cocktails

We have been in love with our cupcake cocktails ever since we designed them for our What's Newsletter (if you don't know about What's Newsletter you need to go sign up for the next issue at www.hellocupcakebook.com where you will also find the directions for making these little potions).

When the folks at Food Network's Wine and Food Festival and Jelly Belly came to us and asked if we would be interested in participating in the SWEETS Event at this year's Festival we thought Cupcake Cocktails would be perfect. Then we found out we needed to serve 1000 at the event, that's when we invented the Mini Cupcake Cocktail.

Now this little drink is not a full cupcake like our full size Cupcake Cocktail. In fact you don't even have to use cupcake. It could also be done with frozen pound cake (Sara Lee). But we are prejudiced toward the cupcake. To make the Mini Cocktail we filled the bottom of a mini martini glass with about 10 of a single favor of Jelly Belly Cocktail Classics jelly beans. Then we added a 3/8 inch slice of cupcake cut into 1 1/2 inch circle on top of the beans. Next we topped the cupcake slice with frosting tinted in vibrant cocktail colors to match the beans and garnished with additional beans of the same flavor and a cocktail fork. What a fun little dessert. It's just the right portion when you know you'll be tasting other desserts, easy to carry around at an event or party, and just as easy to eat while you mingle with the cocktail fork included in the design.

This event was amazing. It was the who's who in food and restaurants in New York City. Jean George, Tom Colicchio, Francois Payard, Daniel Boulud, Gramercy Tavern, and Clinton Street Baking to name just a few of the over 50 participants. Food Network's Guy Fieri and Sandra Lee were there as well as cake luminaries like Ben Israel. We even got to meet the Ace of Cakes, Duff Goldman!

We made this amazing Mini Cupcake Cocktail tower for the table.
There are little lights inside the tower for the dramatic lighting effect.

Of course we don't go anywhere without Corn on the Cob Cupcakes!

There are even more cocktails in the back and on trays under the table.

A close up of our Mini Cupcake Cocktails. It just looks like a pretty swirl of frosting with a few jelly beans from the top,
but underneath is the fun part. That's where we hide our slice of cupcake and even more Jelly Belly beans.
We used Peach Bellini and Pomegranate Cosmo and frosting in matching shades of yellow and pink.

That's Duff Goldman's Charm City cake on the far right.
It had iridescent frosting and striking city scenes on a spiral design around the of the cake. Gorgeous!

Ace of Cake's (Charm City Cakes) Duff and Mary Alice.
We love Duff's hair cut and they are both so nice.

More of our favorite chefs. The geniuses from Fatwitch Bakery.
The brownies they were serving were out of this world! If you haven't bought Patricia Helding's book yet now is the time!

Dylan Lauren, owner of the amazing candy stores, DYLAN'S CANDY BAR.
She has a new book out...guess what?...it's about CANDY!

And that's us with the fabulous Tammie Gates from Jelly Belly.
Lighting the Mini Cupcake Cocktail Tower was Tammie's inspiration.
Thanks Tammie and thanks to Jelly Belly for inviting us.
We love your beans!

What a fantastic event. We were charmed by everyone we met and had a fabulous time. We think our Mini Cupcake Cocktails were a big hit with the crowd. We highly recommend this little dessert for any fun party or event. Be sure to go to our website to get the instructions at  www.hellocupcakebook.com
