We hear the Frogs
Listen for the frogs, they are a sign of a healthy planet!
Spring is coming on strong and we are starting to hear the birds singing and the frogs won't be far behind. Frogs are the bell-weather of a wetland and their presence tells us things are in pretty good shape. We thought it would be nice to honor our little green warning signals with a new design for spring. This one uses a mound of frosting on top of a cupcake baked in a green liner. We frosted them in a light green color and then roll them in green decorating sugar (you can make your own colored sugar, the directions are in What's New, Cupcake?). We cut green mello rings in half and use the 2 halves for the brows and then add brown M&Ms for the eyes. Nostrils are made from Sunny Seed Drops and the mouth is a red licorice lace (the pull apart variety). A few green M&Ms form the warts. That's it.
And remember to listen for the frogs, that's the sound of a clean environment!
Happy cupcaking!

Hi Liz,
Just go to Hello Cupcake page on Flickr or you can join our Fan page on Face Book and post it there. I think Face Book is actually easier and all of the fans love seeing each other's work. The Facebook group is also called Hello Cupcake.
Thanks for asking,
Alan

hi! my name is Kelsey i am a 14 year old girl with a passion of baking. i have been baking in my mom and grandmas kitchen for as long as i can remember. Being a pastry chef is my dream job. Right when i move to new york(i live in Texas by the way). When i first saw your book (hello cupcake) i couldn't wait to jump in the kitchen, put on my apron and start baking. my mom said that i should start a little cupcake business right from home since i have such a great ability to make cupcakes. That gave me a really great idea, start using your brilliant cupcake ideas in my little business. I've made a lot of cupcakes so far from both your books but one day my moms friend called and asked for 2 dozen cupcakes for a co-worker who loves the color green and frogs. i was freaking out because i couldn't brainstorm any ideas on how to make a frog on a cupcake. so i grabbed hold of my moms laptop and started browsing all over the place for ideas of how to make these frog cupcakes. Then i finally thought to come across you website and it had the perfect froggy on it! y'all really do think of every cupcake design there is, don't y'all?! Well i just thought I'd tell you thank you for making your books and inspiring me to go futher then just frosting a cupcake and to let you know how much secsess I've had because of it. hope to stay in touch with y'all!
Yours Truly, Kelsey (sorry for any typos I may not have corrected)
