TODAY Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda!

Watch for us on the TODAY Show Tuesday April 29th, during the fourth hour segment with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb (that's 10 to 11 AM in New York City).

Karen will be showing Kathie Lee and Hoda a lot of fresh cupcake ideas. We have about thirteen projects ready for the Hello, Cupcake! segment, and Karen, Kathie Lee and Hoda will be making Spaghetti and Meatball cupcakes together on air! It should be a lot of fun so tune in or set your TIVO.

See you there!

It was so nice meeting you both at R J Julia last night. Your creativity is marveling and delicious. My husband could not put the book down when I got home. He is a Junior High School Art Teacher. I think there will be cupcake challenges in his students future. Thanks again for a wonderful time.
PS Alan, I am a huge fan and did not even know it. As a lover of Dori Greenspan's book, I was thrilled to here you were the photographer. When her new book comes out, please come back to R J Julia with her. I get such a thrill meeting true artists in person.

Thank you so much for coming and thanks for the lovely comments. I hope your husband assigns Van Gogh's Starry Night Cupcakes from the book to his students. It is really a great idea for making students study a painting in detail while it gives them a creative challenge in mastering the painterly blending of the colors. I studied painting years ago and I can tell you it is not that different from working in oil paint, only it tastes better!

      Thanks for writing and...

Several of my co-workers and I watched the segment--it was great! For those of our group who haven't yet bought the book, it was eye-opening and motivated them to ask where they could get it. We have all become detective-candy shoppers, ha! PLUS, we are decorating cupcakes the Hello Cupcake! way on our staff retreat next month--hooray!
    Thanks and take care,

I was wondering if you have created the starry night cupcakes. I was hoping to make it next month and don't know how to cut the crackers exactly. I was wondering if anyone has done it and can help out with the best way to do it. Other than that everything looks great and I love this book myself!

Hi Heather, i am so excited to hear you are planning to conquer the Starry Night project. It is one of my favorites.

How you cut the cookies is not all that critical, what is important is that the cookie covers the gap between the cupcakes so the frosting doesn't fall through. Once you put your cupcakes in the frame or push them together you will see that there are small gaps at the corners where the cookies meet and that a small (1") square or even triangular shape will fill the openings. Let the cookie overlap the cupcake on all sides and it will support your frosting masterpiece.

      Hope that helps and...

      Keep on cupcaking,
      Alan
