We love decorating dog cupcakes. Those are our Terriers on the cover of our book Hello, Cupcake! Nina wrote in asking how to make a cupcake design for a Doberman. We have a wholeselection of pup cakes in our book, including a cupcake design for aDachshund which could easily beturned into a Doberman. We use a chocolate wafer cookie for the snoutwhich you could trim to lookmore like your Doberman. We made the ears from tootsie rolls, justshape them to match your Doberman and press them right into thechocolate frosting. We will try to post more dog designs in the comingmonths. These are so cute! I can't wait to see your book. I'm hoping you either have or can give me a Chihuahua design. I have 3 of my own and I foster Chihuahuas for a local rescue. I have many human friends with Chihuahuas and we have "Chiestas" all the time. I usually bring cakes or cake bites, but Chi cupcakes would be a huge hit!

We have a Chihuahua in the book! Ours is tan in color, if you have a different color just tint the frosting to match your Chihuahua and have fun! Be sure to send us a photo of your Chihuahua cupcakes.

Then you are really going to like the whole pack of dog ideas we have in the book. We have a design for all of your pals from the dog run; a pug, a collie, a lab, a schnauzer, a chihuahua, a bulldog, a poodle, and lots more. Have fun!

hi alan and karen~ i bought your book about a month ago from amazon.com. what you did is nothing short of amazing! so creative! i tried to do the puppy cupcakes using the plastic bag...i guess i am more of a wilton-tip kinda girl. could you please suggest the proper tip to get the same effect. i would love to be able to do this professionally (open my own business someday) would guys come to my house and teach me everything you know??? hahahaha. thanks for your time, lee

Does anyone have any tips for creating a greyhound cupcake? I used the chihauhau as a model but my result looked like a chihauhau with a long nose! I would love to make these for one of our greyhound rescue groups. Thanks for any help!

OMG theese cupcakes are AH-MAZING. I made them insted of a cake for my birthday and 23 people baught them after the party. I'm completely lovin' the adorable doggy cupcakes! Does anyone have any tips or directions on making a maltese cupcake?! My dog's birthday is coming up and I would love to make some for her party!

I would try using the basic instructions for the Schnauzer. But for your maltese I would make a smaller snout. Also try mixing the frosting colors in the zip lock bag to match the colors of your pup. Good luck and send us a photo of your maltese pupcakes.

I have made the schnauzers, chihuahua, and chocolate labs. They turned out pretty well. How do you keep the canned icing from running though? The marshmallow noses have a tendency to slide off the cupcake. Is there a good buttercream icing recipe where the icing is fluffy enough to hold the candies, yet sets up to keep from running? Also, I have found that white canned icing has an "off-taste". Thank for your tips!

Hi Karen, So glad you have made the schnauzers, my little gray schnauzer Lucky says good choice! We have been having a really bad time with some of the canned frosting on the market. We have noticed a lot of the batches are very thin. They melt and run once you frost with them. We have been in touch with the manufacturers and hopefully they can fix it. Meanwhile try the Almost-Homemade Buttercream Frosting on page 227 of Hello, Cupcake!. It is made from marshmallow fluff and butter with vanilla extract and confectioner's sugar. It is really simple to make, tastes great, and has the body and texture you need to hold your candies in place for all of the designs. Thanks for writing and as always...

Try using lots of white frosting and a cute pink bow, unless it is a he then a blue one.

Yes we did. We suggested they use the design for the dalmation but keep the snout more trim and shorten the ears to look like a Jack Russel. Every breed and every dog has a unique look so just look to your best pal as a model for your design. Just like my grey schnauzer Lucky on the cover of Hello, Cupcake! Happy cupcaking!
